Super XV Round 13

Round 13 of Super Rugby is here with the highlight being the battle of the colours, Reds v Blues. The top of the table Blues face a tricky road trip to Brisbane where the Reds have won 11 games on the bounce. The Blues won a hard fought match last weekend against the Canes’ and have really impressed the pundits this year by grinding out victories, something which the Blues have lacked in recent years. This is a tough one to pick as both sides have plenty of game breakers. Blues to break the Reds home victory run, by 4.

The Crusaders have come off one of their most inspiring wins in recent memory as they beat the high flying Stormers in Cape Town without Messers Cater and McCaw, as well as suffering numerous injuries which saw impressive youngest Matt Todd (flanker) play 45min on the wing. The play the Cheetahs, with a few new faces in the backs but will be bolstered with the return of Carter and McCaw. It is often tough backing up after such a draining performance, but it is their last game in the republic and they should be too strong. Crusaders by 12

The Chiefs have struggled all year and need a confidence boosting win against the Stormers. The Stormers still top the South African conference and are embarking on their NZ tour which will make or break their season. I feel the Stormers will get up for this one, by 5

The Kiwi derby this weekend features the Highlanders and Hurricanes. The men from the deep south have also been hit hard by injuries and are struggling after 2 successive defeats. They are still in the top 6 but can still afford another loss, especially at home. The Hurricanes have nothing to lose as their title aspirations are effectively over but with Piri Weepu returning they have the class to cause a few upsets in the final few rounds. Hurricanes by 6.

The 2 other games feature 2 teams who must win to stay in playoff contention, the Bulls who play the Rebels in Pretoria and the Brumbies who play the Lions in Canberra. Both teams should be too strong and will get much needed competition points. Bulls by 10 and Brumbies by 15.
