Scott's match report from Leicester Tigers v Newcastle Falcons

We arrived in Newcastle knowing that they were fighting for their premiership lives. It was always going to be a tough game and it proved to be the case. I thought we dominated the first half and should have had a bigger lead but some missed kicks and average handling meant we were only up by 4 at the break so still all to play for.

The Falcons showed some real character in defence in the second stanza and although they let in 2 tries they repelled numerous Tigers attacks. On top of that we lost a bit of composure once or twice with the try-line in sight so the game wasn’t made safe till late on. It’s a competitive league from top to bottom so that’s nothing new!

Captain Craig Newby was man of the match. "Thrilled with the result, we still have a lot to work on but sorting our home semi out is one goal achieved. Nice to get m o m for once, Barney (Waldrom) has had a mortgage on it this season."

It was a torrid battle up front and some big hits were exchanged all game. The scrums proved to be a lottery as both sides infringed according to the ref. Alesana crossed for his 11th try of the season and currently tops the premiership try-scorers list (little bro’s not doing so bad either). "I'm loving the chance to get my hands on the ball. The forwards are giving us a great platform to attack from."

We have next weekend off and have a chance to rest a few sore bodies. The boys enjoyed some fish n chips on the bus on the return trip to Leicester. Tommy Waldrom was particularly excited about this!
