Aviva Premiership preview for 15/16/17 April

Back to premiership action for the run-in, after a hard weekend in European competition for some of the English sides, including us. We can't wait for our first game at Welford Road since the beginning of March – it's been a long tour! Anyway here are my picks for the weekend, let's see if I can keep up my enviable prediction record.

Sale v London Irish

First up on Friday night it's the Sharks hosting the Irish, who need to win pretty much from here on in if they hope to make the top 4. The league is so tight in the middle though so if they lose here they could fall to 7th and struggle to make next year's Heineken. Sale need another win to pretty much make sure of avoiding relegation and I take them to keep their form going after last week's win over Gloucester – Sharks by 5.

Newcastle v Northampton

Saints have their mojo back but Falcons are in the drop position and desperate for points, and there are no poor sides in the Premiership so ignore the table and recent form here. I'm going to take a gamble, stick my neck out, and go for..............an away win – top 4 Saints by 7 over bottom placed Newcastle.

Bath v Harlequins

Tough one to call. I would say the form of both these sides goes up and down more often that a tart's knickers but that would be rude. These are the last two sides we have played in the premiership and on the day Quins gave us the harder game. There's hardly anything between the sides in the table but Quins have struggled for form away from the Stoop. I reckon Bath will play some good footie at home and I take them to win by 9.

Exeter Chiefs v Sarries

The Chiefs have done a great job building a solid club and good fan base but this will be a big ask as Sarries are a top side and going well. They won't have it easy though as the men from the South West will have their tribe making lots of noise and will be fired up for a big game. I reckon Sarries will have a bit too much all-round and will win by 5.

Tigers v Gloucester

The return fixture from October when the Shed had their day with a last minute try settling the game in the home side's favour. Our visitors already have some silverware in the cabinet this year with the LV cup or whatever it is so well done to them for that. Like I said before, we can't wait to get out on the field after last week's heartbreaker in Dublin and I will never bet against my own anyway. Tigers to win a good hard game by 8.

Wasps v Leeds

Wasps have been surprisingly mediocre for a lot of this season while Leeds are playing with all their boss's famous spirit and bloody-mindedness (must be something about the Tigers 7 jersey!) from the first to last minute every week to try and escape relegation for a second time. If Wasps really find their form they have top 4 quality. They haven't played like it lately but I still reckon home advantage, and lots of experience, will be enough for them. Wasps by 6.

So what do you reckon, can you predict better? Send in your picks and we'll see!

Cheers for now
